We first tried this at a friends' house with a nice bottle of wine. The wine was great, but we could not really tell if the decanter made a difference. Neither of us ever had the wine before and we did not do a before/after taste with the gadget. However, I was intrigued enough by the portable decanter to pick one up. I was still a bit skeptical, so instead of picking up the higher end Vinturi 6700 Wine Aerator, I opted for this one which was a lot cheaper, but looked identical. After receiving, we decided to do before and after taste test with a much cheaper bottle of wine. We cracked open a fine Vendage Shiraz; the World Wide Wine Championship 'Best Buy' Winner 2009. Poured 2 glasses, one decanted one straight out of the bottle. The one straight out of the bottle was fairly strong, acidic, and had that familiar slightly burning aftertaste classically associated with Vendage. The decantered glass was much different. I can absolutely say the strong acidic taste was removed. Also, there was no burn on the way down. It was very smooth. I can't say what it did to the bouquet, etc. - there is not much to work with the wine we had. However, the decanter without a doubt rounded off the many rough edges of the Vendage making it very drinkable. So does it really work? My wife and I would say yes. I would also recommend this one over the other. They look identical, function identically, and I got it on Amazon for $16 less.
